At 1164 ft. above sea level Tomintoul is the highest village in the Highlands and is the'Gateway' to the newly formed Cairngorm National Park. The village has a population of around 360 with a further 600 living in the surrounding area. Accomodation for visitors is well provided by 3 Hotels, a Hostel and many B&B's. There is a well attended Primary School, a Post Office, a Mace Shop, Churches, The Museum, A'anside Studios, Tomintoul Gallery and The Whisky Castle & Highland Market.. On the to do list there is an Adventure Playpark, a visitor-friendly Bowling Club, hundred's of miles of bike and walking trails, horse riding and every possible country-style pursuit imaginable within a short distance of the centre. In July the village hosts one of the longest established Highland Games in Scotland.
The Tomintoul Distillery provides much of the work in the area producing three editions of first class Speyside Malt Whisky. A ten year old and a very smooth 16 year and a 27 year old vintage. The village is situated on the established Whisky Trail and is surrounded by spectacular mountains and countryside.
Deep in the Glen Avon, salmon and brown trout provide suberb fishing. When winter comes to Tomintoul, the Lecht Ski Resort opens with the first snows of winter. All in all, Tomintoul is a fabulous place to live or visit! -FOR PICS CLICK HERE -
