Lowland

The Auchentoshan, Bladnoch, Glengoyne and the Glenkinchie are the last of the working malt whisky distilleries in the Lowland area. A few scant remnants from over 215 distilleries once recorded as being operative in the Lowlands around the mid 18th century.

Auchentoshan, now owned by Suntory, is perhaps the most notable of our surviving Lowlanders, and still uses the triple distilling process traditionally favored by much of the area's whisky producers in the pre-war years. The expressions from the distillery are perfumed and fragrant carried on a slightly oily, light spirit.

Bladnoch has survived as a proud, independantly owned distillery whilst Glengoyne would rather call itself a Highlander and produces a more robust product.

Not to be forgotten, The Glenkinchie is one of the Classic Malts inspired firstly by United Distillers and now of course maintained by Diageo.

Sadly there are too few remaining casks of the Rosebank and Littlemill Distilleries. These drams are soon to be lost to the World with casks now very rare, with these expressions now beginning to pass into history.
